Your True Self: An Educational Course for the 21st Century

The “Your True Self” course is designed to equip students with the skills, mindsets, and literacies necessary to navigate the complex social, technological, and political realities of contemporary America. Building on the pillars of humanity—relationships, responsibility, commitment, loyalty, creativity, and love—the curriculum fosters personal growth and collective well-being. Students will explore multiple intelligences (cognitive, emotional, social, and moral) as essential tools for adaptation, ethical reflection, and thriving within families, communities, and broader society.

Course modules address pressing societal challenges such as misinformation, economic inequality, and polarization, emphasizing resilience, perspective-taking, and the transformation of thought patterns to promote trust and social cohesion. Through thought experiments, interdisciplinary collaboration, and holistic approaches that acknowledge the integrated brain-environment system, learners will develop the capacity for imaginative problem-solving and intentional, purpose-driven living. The ultimate goal is to cultivate individuals who can both adapt to and positively influence a rapidly evolving world.

Sufi Stories
Sufi stories are parables and fables from the seventh-century Islamic mysticism known as Sufism. These stories, written by Sufi saints and scholars, contain metaphysical insights and life lessons. The metaphysical insights and lessons revolve around improving wisdom through experiencing love, compassion, mercy, gratitude, humility, sincerity, repentance, knowledge of reality, and the human condition. The highest level of wisdom capable of being experienced is known as the true self. Remarkably, Sufi stories do not provide direct answers to difficult real-world situations. However, they can be immensely helpful in conveying insight and wisdom closely related to real-world situations. A real-world Sufi Judge who instructs us on what to think or how to solve difficult real-world situations does not exist. Judges only judge. Instead, by default, we are responsible for discovering the solutions critically important to ourselves, our nation, and humankind.
